Voices from the field

Doulas and end-of-life practitioners on Villages

These are the people running real practices, sitting at real bedsides, and recommending Villages to their cohorts. Here's what they say, in their own words.

“I just helped a couple with their care plans today! I love how Villages helps us focus on what's really important for how we plan for end-of-life to happen. We have the POWER if we choose to take it!”

Theresa Besecker
End-of-Life Doula, Founder · A Doula's Help, LLC
Pennsylvania

“My clients trust me with the hardest moments of their lives. Villages lets me be present in those moments without losing track of their plans or what we've talked about. It's the first piece of software I've recommended to my own doula cohort.”

Keri Winchester
Ethicist, Death Doula, Owner · Living and Leaving
Arizona

“Villages is an invaluable tool in my doula practice, making advance care planning more accessible and seamless for my clients. It helps turn meaningful conversations into clear, documented wishes, ensuring that their voices are heard when it matters most.”

Meg Maher
End-of-Life Doula, Owner · End of Life Doula, LLC
Florida

“We can plan for a 'good' death, whether it's years away or imminent. For those with terminal conditions, I support Medical Aid in Dying or Voluntary Stopping Eating and Drinking, if they choose. Villages helps me offer comprehensive end-of-life services.”

Nicole Soares
Death Doula & End-of-Life Educator, Owner · EcoLove Transitions
California

“I am a professional problem solver who specializes in providing comprehensive psychosocial support. I built my Village for a comprehensive advance care planning solution that meets the clinical, spiritual, and personal needs of my clients.”

Rosie Gaston, MSW, LICSW, APHSW-C
Clinician Owner · A Better Ending
Minnesota

“Villages has been crucial in supporting the Empowered Endings' end-of-life planning model. It has enabled us to share a framework and platform for end-of-life planning that is far more personalized, comprehensive, and accessible than traditional advance directives.”

How you'll actually work

Up and running in five minutes — and built for the bedside

A welcome tour walks you through the whole platform

On your first dashboard load you’re greeted with a quick welcome screen — take the 90-second tour or skip to the setup checklist. The tour is a 10-step spotlight anchored on the real sidebar (Dashboard, Families, Members, Resources, Chat, Feedback, Shareable Directives, Help, Account) and the checklist opens each setup task in one click. You’re oriented in under five minutes either way.

Sit with your client and fill the directive together

When a client wants to do this with you — at the bedside, on the porch, over coffee, or on a Zoom call — you can drive while they confirm. The form auto-saves on every keystroke, sections that don’t apply collapse with one click, and your client can sign in to their own account afterward to review or finish anything you didn’t complete together. The signed PDF + QR-coded share link generate from the same record they’ll see in their own login.

Or your client fills it out on their own time

Other clients want to sit with their thoughts in their own kitchen — not yours. They sign in with just an email code, see what you’ve assigned, and move at the pace that feels right. Same auto-save, same signed PDF + QR-coded share link at the end. You can check on progress without making them feel rushed.

Same workspace, every device

Phone at the bedside. Tablet on the porch. Desktop at home. Same login, same Village, same Family.

What your clients experience

Gentle while they're with you. Trustworthy after they're gone.

Your client shouldn't have to wrangle software while facing the end of their life. And the things you build together — directives, video wishes, the plan for what happens after — should keep reaching the people who need them when your client is gone.

While they're with you

No app to download, no password to remember

Your client opens a browser on phone, tablet, or laptop and signs in with just their email. We send a one-time code. They enter it. They're in.

Their own private space

A quiet workspace with you and the family members they've invited. No noise, no feeds, no ads.

At their own pace

Directives don't have a due date. They see what to fill out next when they're ready — not before.

And after they're gone

One QR, printed once, for life

Your client prints a wallet-card QR — or a fridge magnet, or a glove-box sticker — that points to their living healthcare directive. If their wishes change, the code stays the same; only the content it serves updates. EMTs scan it. Family scans it. It keeps working after your client has passed, so the people they love still have what they need.

Video wishes, in their own voice

Your client records short video messages inside their Village — a word to a grandchild, a blessing, a goodbye, a legacy story. You guide the conversation. They speak. Family keeps the videos after your client is gone, alongside the same QR that holds their directive — one place for the wishes that outlive them.

A designated proxy (someone your client chooses — a spouse, an adult child, you) retains access after death, so nothing the family needs is locked away.

What's included

Everything you need to run your practice, nothing you don't

Built with doulas, not for doulas. The features you'd actually use — designed for the work, not for managing software.

Families

Each client is a Family — a private container for that household. Add as many Family Members as you need. Every Member gets their own login.

Private chat per client

Secure in-app messaging between you, each client, and their family. No more end-of-life conversations over personal SMS.

Resource library

Upload your intake forms, care plans, invoices, POLST, MOST, vigil plans, legacy letters — anything you already use. Share privately with a single client or your whole practice.

Healthcare directives

A built-in directive template your clients fill out at their own pace — plus room to bring the templates you already use. Signed documents stay private inside your Village.

Your Doula Starter Pack

Eight ready-to-assign documents, loaded the moment you sign up

You don't have to bring your own intake form, your own directive, or your own legacy worksheets to get started. Villages ships with a complete starter set — assign any of them to a client on Day 1.

  • 01

    Healthcare Directive (HCD)

Names a healthcare agent and captures values + care preferences across common end-of-life scenarios.

  • 02

    Living Will

A focused statement of life-sustaining-treatment preferences for the end of life — the voice that speaks for the client when they cannot.

  • 03

    VSED Directive

Documents a client’s voluntary choice to stop eating and drinking, while still able to make and communicate that decision clearly.

  • 04

    MAiD Personal Record

A reflection-and-planning document for Medical Aid in Dying — works alongside the legal forms in MAiD-legal states, and as a planning tool elsewhere.

  • 05

    Doula Intake

Gathers each new client’s history, preferences, and care goals — your structured first session, reusable across every client.

  • 06

    Vigil & Death Plan

Choreographs the bedside experience: who’s present, what’s read, music, sensory details, the small things that matter.

  • 07

    After-Death Wishes

Organizes the practical post-death tasks the family will face: notifications, services, financial accounts, legacy.

  • 08

    Family Communication Guide

Scripts for breaking hard news — what to say at each stage, who calls whom, how to time the conversations.

You can also upload your own forms — intake docs, custom HCDs, care plans, vigil plans — and share them with a single client or your whole practice. And if you want a fillable template built into your Village (your own intake form, your own vigil plan, your own worksheet structure — not just a PDF upload), reach out and our team will build it for you.
